[Doc]

Name: Gareth Flect (a.k.a Doc)
Occupation: Actor, Archeologist
First Appearance: Koala Smith issue #1

Bio:
Gareth Flect, son of Victor and Wendy Flect, was a great Sharkspearean actor. After garnering much praise and having earned enough to support himself for the rest of his life, the great stork decided he was done with purely-dramatic roles and wanted to get involved in more adventurous projects.

Gareth signed on with Stephen Sealburg to appear in the new adventure TV series Koala Smith. Gareth plays the character of Doc, a dedicated archeologist who wishes to uncover the remains of ancient civilizations. Gareth's theatrical training makes him perfect for providing the wisdom and knowledge that Doc requires.

At a ritzy uptown party held at the popular Club Posh, Gareth met Karen Andinus, the project manager from SeaLeft Software. The two hit it off instantly and started dating.

While on vacation at a lakeside cabin, Gareth proposed to Karen. After a bit of soul-seaching, Karen accepted. The two were married in a ceremony a year later surrounded by friends and family.

Behind-the-scenes:
While working on the original ideas for the Koala Smith comic, it was realized that some type of sidekick character would be needed. This was so Koala would have someone to talk to since otherwise he'd be alone in the various tombs and temples he was exploring. Doc was created to provide the more intellectual, book-knowledge side of the team.

Originally the character was going to be called "Professor". This proved to be too long to comfortably fit into dialog in the comic panels, so the name was changed to the much shorter "Doc".

Gareth was originally introduced to Karen in Hot Dog Issue #3 simply to help populate the background of the comic. There was never any intention that the relationship would go beyond that, but the story possibilities were interesting. Over the course of nearly five years, Karen and Gareth's relationship was developed in bits and pieces until their eventual marriage.
