[Koala Smith] Sid Davidson (a.k.a. Koala Smith)

[Koala Smith]

Name: Sid Davidson (a.k.a. Koala Smith)
Occupation: Actor, Archeologist
First Appearance: Koala Smith issue #1

Bio:
If hazardous undertakings have a name, it must be Koala Smith! Sid Davidson plays the titular character in the television show Koala Smith.

The character of Koala Smith himself is a globetrotting adventurer, knowledgable in the ancient histories of the world. Equipped with his trusty bushman's boomerang, Koala routinely finds himself in over his head - the ancients built some decidedly dastardly traps. Through quick reflexes, and even quicker thinking, Koala scrapes through many harrowing situations in the nick of time.

Outside of his Koala Smith persona, Sid Davidson is best friends with co-star Gareth Flect. Sid was honoured to be Gareth's best man at his friend's wedding. While there, Sid was called upon to deliver a speech and discovered a heretofore unknown fear of public speaking. Calling upon his Koala character, he managed through this rough spot.

Behind-the-scenes:
When the concept for the Koala Smith comic was being created, some way was needed to tie Koala Smith into the larger Cubes world. Hot Dog and Cubes were tied together by the apperance of Frank Retruf in both, and the Quack V computer game was pulled in with a Cubes strip that worked as an advertisement for the game.

Koala Smith was somewhat problematical since his adventures were going to be taking place in obscure locations like ancient temples and tombs. One of the thoughts, with respect to the new comic, was that an advertising poster would be created to inform people that it was coming. This led to the notion that it would be interesting if one of the Cubes characters actually had the poster up in the background of their office. This in turn led to the idea that Koala Smith be a movie within the Cubes world. This was ultimately changed to be a television show to allow for more stories to be told than what would be expected from a movie franchise.
