[Veronica Teyl] Veronica Teyl

[Veronica Teyl]

Name: Veronica Teyl
Occupation: Marketing Directory at SeaLeft Software
First Appearance: Cubes semimonthly strip #2

Bio:
The squirrel Veronica was originally hired as the Marketing Director for Sealeft Software; however, her years of business experience quickly became apparent. Ralph Black, founder and president of SeaLeft Software, passed the day-to-day management of the company to her when he went into semi-retirement.

Veronica found being the general manager of SeaLeft not to her taste. It required a tremendous amount of energy and investment and was not a role she particularly cared for. She grew more and more exhausted in the new position.

An amateur singer, Veronica was tracked down by the rat Captain Anton Neil, a former singing sensation. Veronica had inadvertently sung in a stage presentation at the Second Largest Outlet Mall in the world a year previously, where she came to the attention of the Captain. When the Captain found Veronica she was singing the blues about her management position. The Captain offered to take her away for a life as a singer. Veronica accepted and left SeaLeft Software.

At first, Veronica enjoyed her singing career. However, the fast paced life and the greasy food didn't agree with her personality or her waistline. Fans watched the singer go from "Thin Veronica" to "Fat Veronica" in a matter of months. Missing her friends at SeaLeft and her former life, Veronica ended her singing career and returned home.

Honey Klim had been hired back to SeaLeft Software to replace Veronica. When Veronica returned home, Honey offered Veronica her old position as marketing director. Veronica gratefully accepted and has been happy ever since.

When Veronica's best friend Karen Andinus was planning her wedding, she asked Veronica to be her bridesmaid. Veronica agreed, stood by Karen's side on the wedding day, and delivered an impressive speech about her friend's virtues. Veronica had the extra bonus of being able to perform with hit band Snake, Wattle, and Wool at the wedding.

With her return to Gray Lassie, Veronica has also returned to her active socialite lifestyle, hob-nobbing with some of the most prominent members in Gray Lassie society. Despite foregoing the professional route, Veronica still keeps up her amateur singing.

Behind-the-scenes:
Veronica was originally going to be a very business-oriented character in the strip, always sporting sharp business suits and being very focused on her work. However, the sharp-shouldered business suit design didn't really fit the facial design of the character or the plush tail. Veronica has slowly moved to a more varied, elegant look in her visual design.

As marketing director, Veronica was mostly dealing with clients outside the company rather than the main cast. This limited her use within the comic strip as it was sometimes difficult to incorporate her into the daily shenanigans of the others. In the fourth year of the Cubes Semimonthly comic, Ralph Black semi-retired and also promoted Veronica to general manager. Veronica is a very much "in the trenches" manager so the change in her role allows her to participate in a greater number of the regular strips.

Veronica's last name is pronounced "tail" in reference to the large squirrel tail her character has.
