Cubes - Issue 2
Road Trip

Introduction
As I write this, the regular Cubes semimonthly comic strip has just finished off its fourth year. In that time, the Cubes characters have changed and grown. It's a lot of fun to plunk the characters in various business situations and see how they react. I thought it would be interesting to see what would happen if they were taken from their usual office milieu and placed somewhere more casual. That was the germ of the idea that flowered into the second full length Cubes comic.

The first Cubes comic, The Mystery of Honey Klim, revealed some difficulties in writing a story with such a large cast as Cubes. When all the characters are together, it's very hard to keep them all "alive" and contributing to the story. In Road Trip most of the characters appear together briefly in the beginning and ending. In between, the characters are split out by pairs to give everyone an equal shot in the lime light (including Frank Retruf's alter ego for all you Hot Dog fans).

This second full length Cubes comic was also fun to work on because the longer format allowed for such things as running gags, more convoluted jokes, and just more room for the characters to play off one another. The comic also has a couple threads that will go on to influence things in the future, but we'll all have to wait to see what forms those take.

Enjoy the comic!
