Introduction
Ongoing series have a way of accumulating "story debt". That happens when an important (or some times not so important) thread is introduced that begs for something to be done with it. Such was the case with the relationship between Karen Andinus and Gareth Flect.

I had originally introduced the two characters to one another in Hot Dog issue #3. In that comic, their introduction was shown as part of the background to a gala event that Frank Retruf, a.k.a. Hot Dog, was attending. At the time I didn't think twice about any possible relationship between Karen and Gareth. Some ideas refuse to die and over time Gareth began popping up in the Cubes semimonthly comic. The difficulty with that was that it was very hard to integrate him into a business setting, him being a big actor and all.

Over the course of three and a half years only glimpses of the Karen/Gareth relationship made it in. After that much time, something had to happen. And that formed the first thread for this latest full length Cubes adventure.

A single thread does not a story make. Especially when it's dealing with touchy/feely emotional baggage within a story that's supposed to be humourous. In addition to the Karen/Gareth relationship, other story debt has accrued over the years. Max's writing endeavours, Stan's interest in photography, and so on. These then form other threads with a more comic bent.

Now read on to join the Cubes on their latest summer getaway.
