Hot Dog, Canine Defender of the Innocent - Issue 3
Melting Hearts

Introduction
The Hot Dog comics are heavily influenced by the golden and silver age super hero comics. One staple of these comics was that the super hero would inevitably meet some woman who adored the super hero but was ambivalent to the super hero's secret identity. Obviously I wanted to incorporate this type of relationship into Hot Dog as well.

When I first created the character of Hot Dog I also gave some thought to other characters that could appear alongside him. One such character was the reporter Mindy Minx who was destined to become the love interest in the comics. In a parody of the classic comics though, I thought it would be more fun if she was interested in Hot Dog's alter ego Frank Retruf rather than Hot Dog himself. It's this idea that forms the basis of Hot Dog issue 3.

When writing the story for Hot Dog I knew that I wanted to intially set it in some kind of social gathering so Frank and Mindy could meet. Coming from the Cubes semimonthly strip side of things, I knew that marketing director Veronica Teyl moved in the high society circles of the city, which seemed a perfect fit for the story I wanted to tell. I took the idea of having Veronica invite Frank and a couple other people from SeaLeft Software to a gathering at Club Posh.

Since it was going to be a party it meant that there would have to be background characters. In the past I've intentionally avoided such situations since including more characters requires a longer time to draw the comics. However, I bit the bullet here and went for the background characters. In so doing, I took the opportunity to slip in characters from most of the major Cubes projects. See how many you can spot.

Have fun with this next installment in the Hot Dog story!
