[Max Tomson] Max Tomson

[Max Tomson]

Name: Max Tomson
Occupation: Business Analyst at SeaLeft Software
First Appearance: Cubes semimonthly strip #1

Bio:
A talented designer at SeaLeft Software, Max can't believe he gets paid for doing stuff he enjoys. He is a little out of touch with reality and has an active imagination that sometimes overlays itself on the real world.

Max was the first cat that Ralph recruited when forming SeaLeft Software. Max had to wear many figurative hats in those days. It was while attending a trade conference that he received his trademark fedora from then client Hope Calers.

Max has combined his quirky sense of humour, fertile imagination, and love of storytelling with Christie Holt's artistic abilities to produce the comic strip Spheres. The two can routinely be found around the workplace coming up with new ideas for their comic.

For some time, Max had been honing his creative writing skills. It wasn't until then project manager Honey Klim discovered a print out of one of Max's stories and told him that it was good that he began trying to get his works published.

After Honey became the general manager of SeaLeft Software she moved Max from his designer/programmer role into a more focused business analyst job. Max still dabbles in programming when called upon.

To further his BA skills, Max went to a two month symposium in New Yuk-yuk. On his return flight he encountered stewardess Heather Flighty, who also had an interest in writing. Max discovered Heather's talent for editing and has used it to help improve his stories.

Max's friend and project manager, Karen Andinus, asked Max to MC at her wedding to Gareth Flect. Max asked Heather along as his date. Due to a series of miscommunications it was only at the wedding that he discovered he'd inadvertently made dates with Christie Holt and Hope Calers as well.

Behind-the-scenes:
Max was created as a fedora wearing character for a number of reasons. First, it made the character have a more visually distinct appearance, which was particularly important since a cat character had previously been used in Hot Dog, Canine Defender of the Innocent issue #1. Second, the character was always pictured as an imaginative character and being able to use a bunch of different hats seemed like it leant itself to a number of gags. Finally, Cubes creator Richard Hoover most identifies with the character Max and wears a similar chapeau.
